DQ 10 Year Anniversary Reunion

Sponsored By The DQ Times

We had an absolutely wonderful long weekend for our 10 Year Dr. Quinn Anniversary Reunion. I left the house and picked Mike up by 2:45pm on the 17th of April 2002 and we made wonderful time up to LAX ... (90 min) and then it took us another 90 min to go a quarter of the distance left! Oh well that is LA Traffic.

(Plus my brand new car with its brand new CD player crapped out on the way up. The CD player wouldn't play and it wouldn't eject - early AM trip on Monday morning to the dealer. They only told me what I expected. They are ordering a replacement unit (which I figured).) Take about a week to get it in and an hour to fix it. And it's a BOSE too..!.

The weather was wonderful for the entire trip although a bit on the cool side .. especially for those from the East Coast who were coming from a heat wave. We arrived at the hotel about 6pm and got checked. We then headed out and joined a group at a restaurant called Hamburger Hamlet ... The company was great ... the food ...so so..

Thursday AM was relax time (lots of that thank goodness) and then we headed off to the beach ... a VERY cool windy beach with bright sunshine tho ... We had lunch there, sat around and talked with some of the other fans. As Marilyn mentioned, there really wasn't the time to sit and talk with everyone we would have liked to spend time with. A few people put their toes in the ocean but no one went in and others took walks and went off to try and fly kites.

After a set of group pictures, along with lots of other pictures, we eventually left the beach and the chill and found our way to a Dairy Queen and then headed back to the hotel ... for some time by and in the pool and jacuzzi. Thursday night we went out to dinner in Santa Monita with Tiffany and some of her friends. As Mike and I were the ones with cell phones, we put two of the girls in my car with Mike and then I rode with Tiffany and Robin. Had an enjoyable dinner at an upscale Mexican restaurant with the girls and Mike. It was a lot of fun.

Friday AM we went off to Malibu Creek State Park where some of the filming for various episodes were done. Paula Evans and Gil were our guides for the tour. Got lots of pictures (as usual) and some of Mike and myself in the "infamous" honey and berries cave. Everyone had to stop and get their picture taken in the cave of course! ... (You have to realize how unusual it is to get pictures of Mike and me together ... or even of me alone (I am usually behind the camera not in front of it)).

The park was really pretty and our "tour guides" gave us an overview of what was shot where ... In typical movie/tv fashion ... the locations in relation to each other are always different than they appear on the screen. It was an enjoyable morning with a good walk, time to talk with the other fans and learn some about the Park. . Friday afternoon I crashed before the dinner.

The dinner was wonderful. Mike and I sat with Frank and Claire .. Claire came and got us to tell us there was room at their table and she wanted us to come down and sit with them. We said farewell sort of to our table companions who made us promise to send Frank their way which we did along with some others. It was a great chance to watch the cast reunite after a lengthy absence in many cases and also another small chance to mingle with the other fans. Some of the cast were there with their children - Brandon brought his twins, Frank his older daughter Claire for her 12th birthday). Shawn brought his girlfriend, also at student at the Univ. of Nebraska. It was great to watch Frank greet Helene, or the reaction of the fans and cast to the late entrances of Chad Allen and Jonelle. Other cast members in attendance were Alex Meneses looking very striking, as were the Calabrese triplets. Unfortunately, Geoffrey Lower didn't make it, nor did Nick Ramus, Jason Adams, David Beecroft, Jessica Bowman, or Erika Flores.

Some of the off-camera people who also came, such as William Olvis, John Liberti (one of the producers) a couple of the writers--Jeanne C. Davis (who wrote "The Circus") and Kathryn Ford (who wrote so many of the great episodes). Eve Brenne was in attendance (despite still using a cane from a recently broken hip)
and it was a joy to see her. One of the highlights of the "program", such as it was, occurred when Pam
played a tape of the episode segment when we hear Sam Lindsay's voice-over advice to Michaela about meetings of old friends. Listening to it there, in that setting, it very moving and so appropriate.

Saturday morning was leisure time and Sat. afternoon we had High Tea at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. We left the hotel early and found a great parking spot (low cost and close by). It was fun to relive the events of Star Week and to walk along Hollywood Blvd. looking not only at Jane's Star but the many others that have been added since then. As long as we were right across the street from the Kodak Center we wandered around and looked at the shops and had lunch ... and also stopped at the Chinese Theatre and read names that go with all the hand prints and foot prints, etc. (Something I haven't done in years). It was interesting to see there were some very recent ones...and of course to hear the comments about "who is Sid??" to which many of the plots were dedicated by the Stars.

We were then off to the Tea and the final event of the weekend. The tea was fun in that it gave us a last chance to get together and get caught up before saying our final farewells. The only real complaint I have is the price for High Tea and the amount of food NOT provided! Pizza and sodas around the pool would have been fun!

Sunday we got up slowly and checked out around 11am. Then we hung around LA (Griffith Park area) and read and relaxed and had a late lunch. Then we headed to "The Met Theatre" to see Orson Bean and another PRT Member Elizabeth Karr in Uncle Vanya by Chekov... It was very good and we had a second opportunity to chat with Orson and Alley ... It is another small theatre group like PRT...

All in all it was a great weekend with a little time for mixing with the other DQ Fans and a little time to ourselves which we really needed. Of course Monday morning was another story ... especially as we had stayed in LA late to see Orson and Elizabeth in Uncle Vanya ..

Hats off to Pam for a wonderful job ...

Take care all until the next time.
